< BackDiplomas in North East Lincolnshire
It is one of four national learning routes for all 14-19 year olds
A new qualification, available at three levels, for students of all interests and abilities who like to learn in a practical way:
- Foundation (level1) – equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades D to G – offered over two years
- Higher (level 2) – equivalent to 7 GCSEs at grades A* to C – offered over two years or over one year if you are over 16
- Advanced (level 3) – equivalent to 3.5 A levels offered over two years (you can also follow a Progression Diploma which is equivalent to 2.5 A levels).
Diplomas are being introduced in phases. By 2011, there will be 17 different Diplomas for young people to choose from.
Diplomas are delivered by local partnerships of schools, colleges and training providers working together.
A Diploma does not qualify you to do a specific job, but it will prepare you for further learning or for progression to a range of employment opportunities within the chosen sector.
Depending on the level of your Diploma, you could go on to:
- a higher level Diploma in the same or a different subject
- GCSEs and A/AS levels
- Higher Education for example Honours or Foundation degrees
- an Apprenticeship at level 2 or 3
- a job that includes further training with your employer
- a vocational course that will qualify you to do a specific job
