Foundation Learning Tier (FLT) NE Lincs
What is the Foundation Learning Tier?
The Foundation Learning Tier (FLT) is a new national initiative designed to enable learners who are working at Entry Level and Level 1 to start on a high quality learning pathway which will allow them to progress onto GCSEs or onto a Foundation Diploma.
On the way the learners will achieve a range of qualifications which include:
- A vocational or work-related qualification
- A Personal and Social Development qualification
- All three Functional Skills: English, Maths and ICT
One feature of the FLT is the large degree of learner choice. Along with their tutor learners will be able to plan their own course of learning, choose vocational units that they are interested in and work towards targets that they feel will be useful to them and achievable by them. Progress in learning will be supported by an Individual Learning Plan.
Learners will study qualifications as part of the FLT for two days of every week, with the other three days being spent in school covering the statutory curriculum. The exception to this is Project 55, a full time provision that has been running successfully for two years.
North East Lincolnshire is currently involved in the first stages of this qualification route. We are part of a national ‘Test and Trial’ and therefore have an input to make over the future design of the FLT. Our learners are a major part of this test and trial and we will be ensuring that their feedback is gained and used to develop the provision further.
This prospectus contains information about all of the vocational learning providers in NE Lincs who are currently offering places for 14-16 year old learners, whether for the FLT provision or other vocational provision.
Vocational learning Providers whose page includes this symbol are part of the national FLT Test and Trial.
If you would like to attend one of these vocational learning providers please discuss it
with your school tutor.
