VIVA Magazine’s Thomas Walkendon presents a cheque to John Leggott College learning mentor and BHF co-ordinator Sabrina Marjara
Following an action-packed year reporting on events at John Leggott College and covering a range of issues affecting students, the College magazine team has filed its last piece of copy and handed its profits to charity.
A total of £261 has been donated to the British Heart Foundation.
The team was brought together in September 2007 and launched its first edition of VIVA two months later, which proved popular with staff and students and completely sold out.
A further three editions were produced, featuring articles about college events and debates about issues in the news as well as music reviews, recipes and much more.
The team was co-ordinated by college tutor Richard Beken and saw students take up a variety of roles including editor, reporter, photographer and marketing officer.

Mr Beken said: “In September 2007 a team of students volunteered to launch a college magazine which they named VIVA.
“It proved to be a tremendous success and is a tribute to all of the students involved in making it happen.
“The money that they raised through the sales of the magazine will make a valuable contribution to the British Heart Foundation and will make a real difference to the lives of local people suffering with heart and circulatory disease”
As the majority of the students are completing their studies this summer, a new team will be sworn in to run the magazine in the next academic year.
