Additional Information: PROMOTING POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR The ethos of the school is friendly, caring and supportive. Discipline is based on positive lines, with students, parents and staff understanding what is expected. All students are expected to follow the ftc Rights & Responsibilities Framework in order to enjoy a happy, successful and productive time. The school also issues a Home-School Agreement. This sets out basic requirements for a successful partnership between parents, students and the school.ftc promotes a positive ethos whereby all students are valued. Staff actively praise achievement. We focus on the reinforcement of positive behaviour promoted through the Positive Reward Scheme. This gives credit for achieving targets in attendance, punctuality, preparedness for work, appearance, attitude to school and quality of work. This is also reinforced by regular meetings where students and teachers assess progress and set targets.Where students do not meet the expected standards of behaviour, a number of sanctions are applied. This may involve faculty and/or whole school detentions, time-out facilities and where a student’s behaviour continues to disrupt their education and/or that of other students, a period of withdrawal and extra support may be needed. This is provided in the on-site/off-site learning and behaviour support area.HOMEWORKHomework is an important aspect of school, encouraging independent learning, and in each year group ( 7 – 11 ), students are given extended homework tasks for all subjects. Details of these can also be found on the school web-page (www.ftconline.org.uk) . A student planner is issued to year 7 students to assist with general organisation.ACCESS TO THE CURICULUM FOR ALL!ftc recognises its obligation under the SEN & Disability Act 2001 and actively pursues the Governing Body’s Accessibility Plan. We are proud of our ‘open door’ policy to admission of any student and we work closely with the LEA to enable students to gain an appropriate placement at ftc to meet their individual needs. We take reasonable steps to ensure that disabled students are not placed at a substantial disadvantage by anticipating any barriers to learning and taking appropriate action to remove them as far as possible. We continue to plan strategically to increase the extent to which disabled students can participate in the curriculum, make the physical environment more accessible and ensure that written material is provided in accessible formats. We welcome the new requirement to have a Disability Equality Scheme that promotes equality of opportunity between disabled and non-disabled persons; eliminates discrimination and harassment and promotes positive attitudes towards disabled people.EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESAt ftc we realise that the development of the student as a whole person is aided by activities outside the stated and agreed curriculum. The value of shared experiences between teachers and students outside the agreed curriculum, in the non-formal learning situation, cannot be over-estimated.An events list indicating the activities taking place, the staff involved and the venue for each night, is prepared, agreed and published at the beginning of each term, with activities taking place from 2.50pm until 3.50pm.ftc also provides a number of residential experiences for students. In the past these have included visits to a water sports centre in Narbonne, France, a Chateau in Northern France, Youth Hostelling in the Lake District, Camping near Whitby and research trips to Iceland. We also provide a number of reward visits to centres such as Alton Towers, Lightwater Valley, the National Science Museum, The Thackery Museum, Doncaster Dome, Sheffield Ski Village, Magna and Rock City in Hull.
