A Guide for Parents and Carers

Lincs2 is the local online prospectus for North and North-East Lincolnshire and contains comprehensive and up-to-date information about the education and training opportunities available to your son or daughter, after they have completed year 11.

The Lincs2 website brings together schools, colleges and training providers across North and North-East Lincolnshire, providing a one-stop source of information about the range of qualifications, courses and opportunities locally.

Lincs2 also contains an online application and it is this part of the Lincs2 site that your son/daughter will use to apply for whatever they wish to do after year 11.

The prospectus does not cost anything to use, but students need to be registered to use the online planning and application functions.

Lincs2 has information about all the courses that are available in school sixth forms, colleges and training providers including apprenticeships.

In addition information can be found about careers choices, financial information, guides to qualification types and programmes and local news and events to help them make an informed choice about their future.

The Online Application

Your son/daughter will be introduced to Lincs2 and the online application in school and will be given a card with their own unique username and password, which allows them to access the applications area within the site.

In general your son/daughter will prepare their online application during the autumn and winter terms of year 11, with most applications being sent by March 2011.

The username and password will allow them to access their own personal area within Lincs2, where they will create their application.

Please Note
If the username and password is lost either the tutor in school or the Connexions Personal Advisor should be contacted, as they will be able to reset these details. It is not necessary to re-register on the site.

A detailed ‘Step by Step Guide’ is available here

How to complete the application

After logging in to the personal applications area the first section to be completed is the Personal Profile.

Personal Profile

Wishlist

The Personal Profile section forms the basis of the application and it is very important that it is completed in full using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, as it is the first impression the provider receives. This section is where they build up information about themselves including personal details, qualifications, interests, work history, health and a personal statement.

The Personal Profile contains a Wish List where courses are placed that your son/daughter may be interested in applying for.

Please Note
there is a ‘Help’ button at the top of each page of the site, and clicking on it will provide information about that page.

Making Electionic Applications

After completing the Personal Profile including the Wish List, the application is ready to be made, simply by selecting the courses and opportunities they wish to apply for. It is also possible at this stage to preview and/or print the application prior to sending.

Please note your son or daughter does not need to restrict their choices at this stage, applications can be sent to more than one provider.

Tracking Applications

After your son/daughter has sent their application they can log back into their personal area of Lincs2 at any time, to track the progress and status of their application.

If they have any queries in their personal applications area there is a ‘Contact Connexions’ facility, where they can type in their query and this gets sent direct to the Connexions Personal Advisor for their school.
