Course Summary

The free distance learning Level 1 Mental Health Awareness course is designed for anyone looking to develop their understanding of mental health, and the causes of mental distress. This course provides information to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties, the misconceptions regarding mental health problems and the rights those with mental health issues have.

This course would suit anyone looking to gain a basic understanding about mental health. It is recommended that applicants complete this course before progressing onto the Level 2 Awareness of Mental Health Problems course particularly if you have never undertaken a Distance Learning course previously.

Course Details

The free distance learning Level 1 Mental Health Awareness course provides information to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties, the misconceptions regarding mental health problems and the rights those with mental health issues have.

There is one unit in this course:

Unit 1 – Develop an awareness of mental health

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Each candidate is required to give written responses to questions, which will be submitted to a qualified script marker to assess. These responses can either be handwritten in the assessment booklet or typed using an electronic template which is provided at induction. Candidates are issued with a workbook to assist with the assessment.

You will be required to submit 1 assessment taking 4 weeks to complete.

Entry requirements

This course is currently being subsidised by the college and is, therefore, free of charge at present UNLESS you fail to complete it; in which case you will be liable to pay £85 to cover the cost of materials.

Courses are fully funded subject to learner eligibility and changes in government funding. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss the eligibility criteria otherwise we will confirm eligibility upon receiving your application. You must also be able to confirm the following:

· You are in receipt of one of the following benefits

Job Seekers Allowance

Employment Support Allowance

Universal Credit

Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Guarantee Credit

Council Tax Benefit (not single occupancy reduction)

Employment Support Allowance (not WRAG)

Working Tax Credit (only for non-working partner)

· You are not in paid employment OR you work less than 16hrs per week AND earn less than £330 a month

· You are taking the course to gain skills to enter employment

· You are actively seeking employment and preparing for employment.




Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent.
