Course Summary
The free distance learning Level 2 Understanding Safe Handling of Medication course supports individuals in understanding:
The different types of medication and what they are used for
How to store and dispose of medicines in a safe way
How to administer medicines safely
How to ensure that record keeping and audits are completed correctly and effectively.
It is important when applying for this course that you confirm that you have access to workplace policies and procedures, as some of the assessment questions relate directly to a care setting.
Course Details
On the free distance learning Level 2 Understanding Safe Handling of Medication course, you will learn the following units:
Part A
Unit 1: Understand medication
Unit 2: Logistical aspects of handling medication
Part B
Unit 3: Understand how to administer and support individuals to self-administer medication
Unit 4: Legislation, guidance and audit processes for medication in health and social care settings
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Each candidate is required to give written responses to questions, which will be submitted to a qualified script marker to assess. These responses can either be handwritten in the assessment booklets, typed using electronic templates, which are provided at induction, or typed using our fully online EQUAL platform. Candidates are issued with workbooks or online materials to assist with assessments.
You will be required to submit 4 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete.
It is important when applying for this course that you confirm that you have access to workplace policies and procedures as some of the assessment questions relate directly to a care setting. For example:
Identify who writes prescriptions for the people to whom you provide care.
Look at your workplace policy and explain the responsibilities of the person who has the authority to receive medication within your workplace
Entry requirements
Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent.
If you are between 19-23 years of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification (or higher) or 5 GCSE Grades A*-C/Grade 9-4.
We will require evidence of this in order to receive funding for you.
