Course Summary

The free distance learning Level 2 Understanding Autism in a Health Care Setting course is aimed at developing a learners understanding of what is meant by “autism”, theories and diagnosis, developing an understanding of legislation, guidance and support networks available to individuals and their families. It looks at strategies that can be used to communicate with individuals with autism and how to support their sensory needs.

Course Details

On the free distance learning Level 2 Understanding Autism in a Health Care Setting course, you will learn:

Unit 1: Introduction to autism

Unit 2: Using a person-centred approach to support individuals with autism

Unit 3: Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism

Unit 4: Sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism

Unit 5: Supporting positive behaviour in individuals with autism

Unit 6: Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Each candidate is required to give written responses to questions, which will be submitted to a qualified script marker to assess. These responses can either be handwritten in the assessment booklets, typed using electronic templates, which are provided at induction, or typed using our fully online EQUAL platform. Candidates are issued with workbooks or online materials to assist with assessments.

You will be required to submit 3 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete.

Entry requirements

Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent.

If you are between 19-23 years of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification (or higher) or 5 GCSE Grades A*-C/Grade 9-4.

We will require evidence of this in order to receive funding for you.
