Course Summary

Through a combination of studio practice, critical thinking and hands-on experimentation, you’ll build a strong portfolio and gain the confidence to express your ideas with clarity and originality. Whether you’re aiming for a degree in fine art, fashion, design or another creative field, this course offers the perfect springboard into higher education or a creative career.

You’ll work across a range of disciplines including fashion and textiles, graphic design, fine art and illustration, while developing essential research and technical skills. With expert guidance from practising artists and designers, you’ll also explore art history and theory, learn to analyse visual language and grow as an independent thinker.

Grow your creative confidence and produce an impressive portfolio of work. This course helps you discover your unique voice as a creative practitioner as well as preparing you for university .

Course Details

Design – Explore core design principles and creative problem-solving across disciplines like graphic, product and spatial design

Fashion & textiles – Develop your understanding of fashion and textiles through hands-on experimentation with fabric, construction and surface design

Fine art – Experiment with a range of fine art techniques including painting, drawing and sculpture to develop your personal artistic style

Research skills – Learn how to carry out effective visual and contextual research to inform and support your creative work

Experimental & traditional practices – Combine traditional techniques with experimental approaches to expand your creative process and material exploration

Art theory related to fine art, fashion and design – Engage with key ideas in art theory to deepen your understanding of visual culture across disciplines

How to read and analyse images – Build your ability to interpret, evaluate and discuss images using visual language and critical thinking

Creativity – Strengthen your creative thinking and originality through diverse projects and challenges

Self-expression – Discover how to communicate your ideas, experiences and identity through personal and meaningful artwork

Preparation for university or art school – Gain the skills, portfolio and guidance needed to confidently progress to higher education in art and design

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths
