Course Summary

This qualification aims to contextualise engineering for those new to, or preparing to work in the renewable energy industry. This course will give individuals the opportunity to specialise in sources of renewable energy of their choice. This programme will equip students with some of the basic technical skills they will need for engineering such as welding, fabrication techniques and the use of computer aided design (CAD) software. This programme will also equip students with the basic mathematical and scientific skills they will need as engineers. All students to use the skills they have learnt in carrying out an engineering project.

Units you may study include: Sustainable development and renewable energy Understanding health and safety in the renewable energy industry Introduction to working in the renewable energy industry Introduction to mathematics for engineering technicians Introduction to applied electrical and mechanical science for engineering Carry out a renewable engineering project Energy from the sun Energy from the wind Operation and maintenance of electrical systems Using Computer Aided Drawing techniques in engineering Employability skills

100% Assessment - Coursework

Entry requirements

Ideally at least 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 or grade A*-D or a Level 1 qualification, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven't already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.
