At level 3 you will have the opportunity to cover elements of mechanical as well as electrical engineering in your first year and when year 1 has been successfully completed you will progress to specialising on one of these areas for your 2nd year. Electrical Engineering at level 3 develops skills, knowledge and understanding in engineering , you will have an opportunity to apply learning in a practical and realistic way and discover more about electrical principles and applications. Math's for technicians is also an element of the course as well as electrical technology, engineering drawing, operations and maintenance as well as health and safety.
There has never been a more exciting time to get into engineering, the industry as a whole in our area is set to achieve a 5% growth by 2024 meaning there is a future need for skilled electrical engineers. Where better to gain these vital skills than in our state of the art engineering facility which includes dissectible machines, power measurement instruments, electrical monitors and even boasts a fully working wind turbine engine giving you the perfect opportunity to gain real experience in this fast paced industry. You will also get the opportunity to build electrical circuits and model wind turbines from scratch. You will learn about all aspects of the industry including electrical equipment and systems, programmable logic controllers, microprocessors, robotics and computer systems as well as math's for technicians, micro electronics, digital electronics, programmable logic controllers, industrial plant & process control as well as practical electrical installation. Industry based work placements will give you the chance to gain hands-on experience.

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.
5 GCSEs grade 4 or above includng Maths and English Language with Science preferred.
