Course Summary
This practical course gives you both the knowledge and experience of crime scene investigation as well as the practical laboratory skills used to analyse forensic evidence.
Course Details
You will learn a range of skills which will enable you to work in crime scene investigation, police, forensic psychology,criminology, forensic anthropology & archaeology, fire investigation, genetics, microbiology and biomedical sciences.
You will work in a bespoke forensic science laboratory, our new Crime Scene Studio and outdoor crime scene facilities using current scientific procedures, forensic recording & preservation equipment and real human skeletons. You will also hear from guest speakers from across the industry and specialist areas sharing their wealth of experience and knowledge with you.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
• Science concepts in biology, chemistry & physics as well as
scientific investigation
• Quantitative laboratory techniques
• Examination, record, collection & preservation of crime
scenes
• The legal framework, criminal law and techniques used
during criminal investigation
• Collecting and analysing entomological, soil, pollen and
diatom evidence
• Behaviour of fire, and the processes and personnel involved
in the investigation of a fire scene
• Heredity and genetic engineering and their application to
forensic science
• Techniques used to recover buried human remains and
identify them.
Entry requirements
We recommend that you have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above. These must include a grade 4 in English Language, Maths and Sciences.
