Course Summary

Want a career in Building Services Engineering but not sure about which area to go into?

This one-year introductory qualification gives learners a flavour of the skills involved in four different areas of building services engineering;

- Plumbing

- Electrical

- Heating and Ventilating

- Refrigeration and Air conditioning and heat pump systems

You'll find out what you enjoy, and then you can move onto a specialist qualification or Apprenticeship in either Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and Ventilating or Refrigeration and Air-conditioning and hopefully eventually move onto a career.

Also included within the course: -

- Student Support

- Work experience - you will get to go on work placements with qualified engineers, visit different sites and customers and get to witness the type of work engineers undertake.

- Employer Interactions

- Access to fully equipped workshop where you will learn practical skills


Course Details

In order to compete the qualification, the following units are complusory:

The units are broken into 2 sections; Practical and Theory.


Practical

105 Understand and demonstrate fundamental refrigeration and air conditioning operations

106 Understand and demonstrate fundamental electrical installation operations

107 Understand and demonstrate fundamental heating and ventilating operations

108 Understand and demonstrate fundamental plumbing operations


Theory

201 Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering

202 Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within building services engineering

203 Understand the role and responsibilities and procedures in building services engineering

204 Understand how to apply scientific principles within Mechanical Engineering Services


How will it be delivered and assessed?

You'll be assessed on your practical skills and the knowledge you gain, by completing practical tasks and online multiple choice tests.

Entry requirements

You are required to possess GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths and ideally a Science. If you are still yet to achieve the required grades in English and Maths, you will be required to undertake these subjects in addition to your core hours for the practical and theory subjects.

Equipment required

All PPE (Personal protective equipment) is provided.
