Course Summary
If you'd like to work in land-based engineering, this is the qualification for you. It is designed to provide you with a wide range of specialist technical practical skills and detailed knowledge and understanding which will equip you to progress to employment, or to further learning and training, within the land-based engineering industry.
We work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practical-based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the land-based engineering industry or specialist further study.
This course can be studied over 1 or 2 years depending on students chosen pathway.
Course Details
- Vehicle engine technology
- Calculations for service engineering and workshop processes
- Testing, servicing and repairing engines, vehicle systems, electric systems and hydraulic systems
- Health and safety
- Testing, servicing and repairing land-based machinery and equipment
Opportunity to resit English and/or Maths (if not achieved at grade 4).
There is also a requirement to complete 315 hours of work experience.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will learn through a mixture of practical and theory sessions, enhanced by guest speakers. There is a requirement to complete 315 hours of work experience.
Entry requirements
You will need GCSE Maths at a grade 5, GCSE English at grade 4, plus two other GCSEs at a grade 4. We will also accept applicants with a relevant Level 2 qualification.
You will be individually assessed as part of the interview process to determine suitability.
One satisfactory reference is also needed.
Your next steps...
On completion of this qualification, you will have obtained the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into industry or on to a higher level supervisory or management qualifications, e.g. Level 4 HNC in Engineering, or progress into employment in your chosen trade.
