Course Summary

The construction industry employs more than two million people in the UK alone. Within this, painting and decorating is a major contributor and the Construction industry is due to continue growing so take your first steps with us in our industry standard facilities with experienced tutors and local work experience. From domestic properties to industrial factories, there are thousands of jobs for painters and decorators in this country.

Course Details

The tutors have great experience and all the knowledge you need to gain skills in the field, such as preparation techniques, colour theory, methods of painting surfaces, applying paper, producing specialist finishes, using High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray equipment and using paint systems. Bet you didn’t know there was so much to it!

This course is mainly practical and as an added bonus you get to work on cool projects all year in the workshop.

Level 1 will comprise of: Health, safety, and welfare in construction; Principles of building construction; information and communication; Erecting and dismantling access equipment; Preparing surfaces for decoration; Applying paint systems by brush and roller; Applying foundation and plain papers and Producing specialist finishes.

Work experience is a mandatory element of the course. Learners will develop and perfect a wide range of skills by working on live construction and building sites.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.

Math's and English Language at grade 1 or above.

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
