Careers Guidance for Young People
Young People’s Support Services (YPSS) have a team of Careers Advisers who mainly work in secondary schools/academies providing impartial information advice and guidance to help students make decisions about their future such as what college they might like to attend and what course(s) to study.
Individual schools/academies are responsible for arranging independent and impartial careers guidance for the majority of students however YPSS will arrange to see some students between years 9 and 11 depending on their individual circumstances for example young people with an active Education Health Care Plan or children who are looked after by the Local Authority.
If you feel you would like some support from a Careers Adviser ask your Careers Leader in school for more information.
Careers Advisers can offer:
- Impartial one-to-one careers appointments to discuss your plans when you leave school or give you some help and support if you are not yet sure what you would like to do.
- Help with college applications.
- Support with how to apply for jobs (application forms, CVs, covering letters, interview skills/techniques).
- Attendance at Annual Reviews (from year 9 up to the age of 25) where there is a need for careers information or advice.
