Young people offered the chance to win prizes with Green Energy competition
Young people are invited to take part in one of two simple, hands‑on activities that can be completed at home or in school using everyday materials:
Build a wind turbine using cardboard, a pencil and a toilet or kitchen roll tube
Build a moving car using a plastic bottle, bottle caps, straws and an elastic band
The activities are designed to be fun, creative and easy to follow, while helping young people develop problem‑solving, design and teamwork skills – the same skills used every day in clean energy careers.
Once completed, young people can submit a photo of their finished activity for the chance to win a range of prizes.

Greater Lincolnshire is one of the UK’s clean energy powerhouses, with opportunities across offshore wind, solar, hydrogen, engineering, planning and carbon capture. In North East Lincolnshire alone, clean energy is one of the fastest‑growing sectors, with industry evidence suggesting more than 32,000 green energy, decarbonisation and hydrogen‑related jobs could be created across the Humber region by 2040.
The pack also includes real‑life career stories, including insights from graduate engineers working in the clean energy sector, and signposts young people and parents to trusted careers advice, training routes and further education support.
Schools and families are encouraged to download the guide and share it with young people to help spark interest and start conversations about future careers.
To build on this work, the upcoming Skills Fair at Grimsby Auditorium this July will give local schools the chance to explore local career opportunities. The event will feature a stand from Taking Action Raising Grimsby’s Emerging Talents (TARGET NEL CIC), where young people can try out the clean energy activities and find out more.
