What is a Retail Assistant?
A Retail Assistant helps customers in a shop and keeps the shop organised.
In this job you might:
- Greet customers and help them find what they need.
- Serve customers and take payments using the till and card machine.
- Put items back on shelves.
- Keep the store clean and tidy.
- Help count and organise stock.
- Unpack deliveries and display items on the shelves.
You need to be able to:
- Talk to customers and staff.
- Have basic maths skills for cash handling.
- Follow instructions.
The workplace and what it might be like:
- You may need to wear a uniform.
- You could work at a store, in a stock room or at a garden centre.
- You could work in a shop or supermarket.
- It can be a busy place .
