Course Summary
You will be part of the Care department during your course working in a practical way, finding out about working with young children.
Course Details
During this course you will study child development and communication as well as working with children in a variety of roles. The course will cover child health, playing and learning, safeguarding, craft activities and supporting children learning literacy and numeracy in the early stages. A career in childcare will open the door to a world of possibilities. This hugely important vocation could see you play a part in creating the foundations of a child's behaviour, education and aspirations. If you have a natural affinity with children and want to develop that into a career then our childcare course will equip with all the practical skills required to progress in to a job. Previous trips have included: Rand Farm and The Forest School. This course will cover Personal Development, Human Growth and Development, Food and Nutrition, Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Settings, Care of Children and Play Activities.
Additionally, we will help you with your ICT, Math's and English skills. You will also develop your communication skills, to help you to progress onto the next level in Childcare and going out into an Early Years setting.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. However, there are no specific entry requirements for this course - students will be assessed prior to an offer of a place on a course.
Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
Potential career paths can include being a Nanny, working as an Assistant in an Early Years setting or working as a Children's representative.
