Preparing for Adulthood
Preparing for Adulthood is something that everyone does, whether they realise it or not. It is about growing up and becoming more independent.
Extra support is often offered to young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to help you get ready for becoming an adult.
If you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) you will have a ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ meeting in Year 9 and these will continue to be a part of your EHCP annual reviews.
Preparing for Adulthood meetings are an opportunity for you to talk about your future with the people who support you. You might talk about:
- education, training or employment (link)
- being as healthy as possible (link)
- living independently (link)
- travelling independently (link)
- being part of your local community (link)
