Course Summary
This course is ideal for learners who are passionate about film and would like to study the art of film, analyse how film works and create their own films. Students will study the analysis of films in depth in terms of how narrative and film language construct meanings and aesthetic pleasures. The course will explore ideas of film authorship and spectator response including the ideological aspects of cinema.
- This course is aimed at students who:
- Would like to investigate representations and ideologies in film
- Would like to develop an understanding of how the social and institutional context impacts on film production and spectatorship
- Would like to generate ideas, produce scripts, storyboards and make short films
- Would like to progress in a career in the film industry
- Would like to study Film at higher education
- Are interested in analysing films in relation to their artistic and technical form and explore debates about aesthetics and authorship
- Have a genuine interest in critically engaging with a range of films

How will it be delivered and assessed?
This course is assessed by exams (70%) and coursework (30%).
Entry requirements
GCSE Grade 5 in English with an average points score of 4.2 or above.
