A- Level Law

Our A-Level Law course offers students a comprehensive understanding of the English legal system and its essential role in society. It also promotes awareness of individual rights and responsibilities, encouraging students to think critically and ethically about complex legal issues. Following the AQA A-Level Law specification, the course covers fundamental topics including the nature and purpose of law, law-making processes, criminal law, tort, and contract law. Through engaging case studies and real-world examples, students develop strong analytical skills and the ability to construct clear, well-reasoned arguments.

Our teaching methods are designed to build deep understanding of the English legal system. Lessons involve a mix of interactive discussions, group activities, and case-based learning where students explore real and hypothetical legal cases to understand how laws are applied in practice, encouraging them to think critically and evaluate legal principles from multiple perspectives. Structured written work helps students refine their ability to present arguments clearly and use legal terminology accurately. We also promote independent learning through research tasks, reading legal texts, and preparing presentations on key legal topics. Throughout the course, we set high expectations for all learners, encouraging active participation, enabling students to build resilience, responsibility, and confidence in managing their own learning as well as developing valuable transferable skills like critical analysis, ethical judgement, communication, and decision-making. KEVIGS students also benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom. These include mock trials, debating clubs, talks from guest speakers practicing the law and visits to legal institutions such as the Houses of Parliament. These activities not only provide cross-curricular links to our other A-Level subjects such as Politics, but also provide valuable insights into the legal profession. Three 2hr examinations at the end of Year 13

• Four GCSEs at grade 6 or above
• A grade 5 or higher in GCSE English
• A grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics
