Course Details

Health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment – Develop essential workshop practices, including safe working procedures, hazard awareness, and keeping a clean, organised workspace

Supporting job roles in the automotive work environment – Understand the different roles within a garage or workshop, and how teamwork and communication support successful service delivery

Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment – Get hands-on with the tools and equipment used to fabricate and repair vehicle components with precision and care

Identifying and agree motor vehicle customer service needs – Learn how to interact professionally with customers, listen to their concerns, and provide clear, helpful advice on vehicle issues and repairs

Routine heavy vehicle maintenance – Carry out everyday maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements and safety checks to keep vehicles running smoothly

Removing and replacing heavy vehicle engine units and components – Strip down and refit engine parts with confidence, gaining valuable mechanical skills

Removing and replacing heavy vehicle electrical units and components – Work with electrical systems and wiring, learning how to identify and replace faulty components

Removing and replacing heavy vehicle chassis units and components – Tackle repairs and replacements on the chassis, including suspension systems and structural elements

Inspecting heavy vehicles using prescribed methods – Conduct thorough vehicle inspections using industry-approved techniques and equipment to assess roadworthiness

Overhauling heavy vehicle engine mechanical units – Disassemble and rebuild engine components to manufacturer standards, developing detailed mechanical knowledge

Removing and replacing heavy vehicle driveline units and components – Learn to handle driveline systems such as gearboxes, clutches and differentials with precision

Overhauling heavy vehicle transmission units – Gain advanced skills in servicing, diagnosing and rebuilding transmission systems

Overhauling heavy vehicle steering and suspension units – Understand the inner workings of steering systems and suspension setups, and how to repair or upgrade them

Removing and fitting heavy vehicle MET components and body panels – Work on mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components, learning to remove and refit panels safely and professionally

Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults – Use diagnostic tools and technical know-how to find faults in mechanical and electrical systems

Overhauling mechanical, transmission, steering and suspension units – Build a deep understanding of critical vehicle systems, learning how to strip, assess, repair and rebuild components to industry standards

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths
