Animal Care Level 2

Studying for a vocational qualification is a practical option and you will learn from tutors who are industry specialists with great facilities. Animal Care students will be working in the Animal House with a wide range of different animals.

If you’re interested in a job working with animals – whether it’s in health, welfare, or management, this course is a great place to start. You’ll learn how the animal care world is changing, with a focus on being more sustainable, and pick up hands-on skills to succeed.

On this course you will develop skills including all aspects of animal care (exotic and non-exotic species,) starting your own business and skills required with accreditation from City and Guilds for practical competencies, animal health, kennel management, welfare, health and safety, feeding and accommodation. You'll hear from guest speakers from across the industry and specialist areas such as exotics specialists and veterinary professionals who will share their wealth of experience and knowledge with you. P

You’ll get to take part in work experience within each unit of the Animal Care programme, giving you a hands-on, real-world experience of what it’s like to have a career working with animals.

Level 2 – 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or another University.

Courses in Animal Care in Higher Education can include: Animal Management, Animal Behaviour, Conservation and Ecology or Zoo Management.
