Course Summary

If you’re curious about the inner workings of electrical systems, this course will give you all the answers you need and more!

The tutors will show you how to wire your average light fitting right through to teaching you about the renewable energy sector. You’ll also gain the knowledge to build systems on your own and could even go on to be a freelance electrician or electrical installation contractor.

From learning how to wire basic sockets, to more complex lighting circuits and fire alarm systems under the watchful eye of our fully qualified and industry experienced tutors. A course in Electrical Installation at the Grimsby Institute could really illuminate your future.

Course Details

From wiring a plug to rewiring a house, we will set you on a rewarding career path into the world of Electrical Installation. Our experienced and industry qualified team can guide you with an engaging mix of workshop tasks and classroom activities.

You will learn how electrical circuits work, how to build them, and most importantly how to do it safely. Regardless of which level you join us at you will learn valuable technical and practical skills in order for you to gain industry-recognized qualifications. Key areas that will be covered include:

Circuits and electrical systems,

Maths,

Project management (scheduling),

Cable fitting and wiring,

Critical thinking,

Teamwork,

Problem solving.

Whether internal or external, work experience is a mandatory portion of this programme. If internal, you’ll work alongside a technician from another area. If external, you’ll be going out to work with experts in their field.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process. The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Math's and English Language at grade 3 or equivalent.

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
