Course Summary
This course will give you the skills in hairdressing as well as beauty to give you the option of further study or leading to a career in TV, film and theatre.
Course Details
This course in makeup artistry will equip you with the skills and expertise to become a successful makeup artist in film, television and theatre. This is a very practical course where you will learner the current techniques for hair (including styling and product use,) how to use makeup tools and techniques, colouring lashes and much more. You will be creating whole character looks combining different skills and techniques and the course will cover creative hair design and historical hair and make-up looks, body art and camouflage make up as well as fashion and photographic make-up. Our courses give you top quality facilities in which to learn all the practical skills to work in the media industry. As a make-up artist you would apply make-up and style hair for anyone appearing in front of a camera or a live audience. You could work in film, television, photographic sessions or fashion shows.
Previous trips have included: Professional Beauty, Look Good Live, Salon International, International Make up Artists Trade Show. Competitions - In house competition day, World skills, Association of Hairdressers and Therapists Competition.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course
4 GCSEs grade 3 or above, or equivalent, including Math's and English Language.
Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
