Course Summary
We provide a practical, real-world approach to learning for those who want to work with children from birth to seven years. The course has a strong practical emphasis, including extensive work experience to build up your knowledge and skills and support you to progress to the T Level and develop the behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher level technical training or study.
Course Details
Developing and learning the behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher level technical training or study.
You will learn:
- Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Importance of play for early learning
- Craft activities with young children
- Young children's development
- Use of food and nutrition information to plan and healthy diet.
- A route based project is also completed
How will it be delivered and assessed?
One year full-time, normally in college three days a week. A mixture of practical and theory with guest speakers, visits and links to placement. Minimum 120 hours work placement.
Assessment is through assignments and practical tasks.
Entry requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or D or equivalent, including English and Maths, or a relevant Level 1 qualification. A satisfactory reference and clear Disclosing and Barring Service (DBS) check are also required.

Further study is available on the Level 3 course run at the college, subject to achieving GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above.
Level 2 qualifications provide you with the knowledge and skills you need for working under supervision in nursery and crhe care, in playgroup and pre-school environments, and in classroom support.
