Course Summary
Our dedicated team of industry-trained staff will help you understand the ever-changing media industry preparing you for a career in this exciting business.
Course Details
Whether you want to be in front of the camera or behind it, taking photographs or writing scripts, take your first steps with one of our media courses. We have something for everyone and our industry experienced staff teach learners on professional software in our media lab that is full of the latest iMacs using Adobe CC suites, Final Cut Pro and more to develop key skills. There's hands-on training and practical work experience right on your doorstep and working on projects for Estuary Student TV will give you the skills employers are looking for. On top of this, we have strong links with top names in the industry and are currently an education partner for the BBC. The course is very practical and we have a state of the art dark room for learners to use. Each week you will learn how to produce media products such as videos, photographs, magazines, games design and web pages. You will also learn about media products and the media industry. There will be projects in all these areas and successful students can specialise further at level 3.
Previously we have had activities that include annual trips to Warner Bros. Studio tour (Harry Potter) and the National Photography expo in Birmingham.
What guest speakers have students heard from? Learners have heard from the Senior Vice President of Creative strategy at Legendary Pictures. Greg Scott, radio and TV presenter, members of theRoyal Photographic society and industry clients.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course

Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
Learners usually move into freelance roles, either working on production briefs for set term contracts or move onto specific roles as photographers, camera operators or editors. Past learners have gone to work for the BBC, Formula 1 racing and national photographic agencies.
