Upon completion of your course, you’ll be well-positioned to explore a variety of career opportunities within the growing automotive sector. The demand for skilled technicians continues to rise, especially with the shift toward electric vehicles and advanced automotive technologies.

Course Details

You will work on a wide variety of vehicles as you learn new skills. The whole idea is for the course to be practical and hands on from the very beginning. This will include working on a number of cars and building confidence in replacing tyres, brakes, suspensions, chassis and frames, engines, transmissions and servicing while also learning the principles of engines and electrical systems. The course content includes the basics of working with cars including working safely, tools and equipment, engine components and operation, repair processes, wheels and tyre checks, valeting, vehicle construction and servicing. Working from our industry standard workshops, you'll learn about the industry from our professional tutors. We are kitted out with everything you would find in a professional garage and away from the workshop, there'll be trips to Birmingham NEC, industry shows and employer visits.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Students for this entry level course will be assessed prior to an offer of a place on a course.

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.

Successful learners have gone onto working in industry, including; Motor racing, Wind turbines, Plant/Agricultural equipment and forklift engineering.
