Course Summary
The Motor Vehicle course is mainly practical, with theory elements which will help to back up your projects. All our courses focus on the future, including carbon awareness and electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance, operation and replacement offering hi-tech equipment to train and prepare for employment.
We have many links with industry employers who will visit the campus throughout the course, providing learners with valuable insights into the motor vehicle trade.
As a further bonus, this course offers the opportunity for work experience and the right candidate could even be selected for an apprenticeship.
Course Details
Do you have a passion for cars? Want to work in a growing industry actively looking for a more skilled workforce? Start your career with our practical Motor Vehicle course. Working from our industry standard workshops, you'll learn about the industry from our professional tutors. We are kitted out with everything you would find in a professional garage including things like the latest diagnostic equipment in the autotronics centre.
You will find hybrid and full electric vehicles as well as regular vehicles in our workshops for you to work on as you learn new skills. The whole idea is for the course to be practical and hands on from the very beginning. This will include working on a number of cars and building confidence in replacing tyres, brakes, suspensions, chassis and frames, engines, transmissions and servicing while also learning the principles of engines and electrical systems. The course is based around units which include working safely, tools and equipment, vehicle construction and routine maintenance, principles of tyres, brakes, steering and suspension, engines and electrical and electronic systems. Away from the workshop, there'll be trips to Birmingham NEC, industry shows and employer visits.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
