Course Summary
As a Revolution Theatre company member and Grimsby Institute learner, you will take part in annual pantomimes, musicals and performances of a professional standard, developing skills in drama, dance, singing and musical theatre.
You’ll also learn about working within a theatre company, preparing you for life when you leave college.
This course gives you a solid basis for working towards a career in performing arts, as well as an insight into the range of different jobs available to you within the industry.
With visits from top industry professionals as part of the programme, you’ll learn everything you need to know for when the curtain rises on your career.
Course Details
Take centre stage and learn all about the Performing Arts industry with our courses based in the Grimsby School of Art with our fully equipped professional theatre and studios. Explore all aspects music, dance, acting, physical theatre, musical theatre and theatre studies, you will develop key skills to start your career as well as develop life skills that are relevant to many areas of work. You will spend time looking at the principles of acting, classical and contemporary theatre performance and drama improvisations as well as jazz and classical ballet techniques, choreography and international dance, this offers the perfect foundation for following your passion.
Alongside teaching, there will be time spent visiting musical theatre in Leeds and London, previous trips have included the DV8 physical theatre and Move It London to experience live performance up close and personal. On top of this, we've had a variety of guest speakers, from musicians to West End actors, directors and producers to television actors come in to share their knowledge and tips with you.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.
4 GCSEs grade 3 or above, or equivalent, preferably including Math's and English Language. Audition at interview.
Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
Potential careers could include: Dancer, Actor, Musical Theatre, Choreographer, Director, Teacher, Entertainment team.
