Designed for those looking to develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for a future as a professional plumber, this course covers the essential foundations of plumbing, including pipework, installations, maintenance and safety. From soldering pipework, hanging radiators and installing boilers, our qualified and industry-experienced team will be there to guide you every step of the way.

With this course, you will get stuck in and have a go for yourself, alongside the theory needed to give you the knowledge for your future as a plumber. Your study programme is tailored around you to include units about the future technology of the industry, employability skills, and personal development.

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Level 2 – 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.

Once you’ve completed your plumbing qualification, a wide range of opportunities are available to help you take your next step:

Start your career as a plumber, pipefitter, or heating engineer in domestic, commercial or industrial settings

Progress to higher education or apprenticeships to specialise further in areas such as Anglian Water pre-apprenticeship Level 2 course or construction management

Work towards becoming self-employed and running your own plumbing business
