Course Summary
Sport students at the Grimsby Institute are trained and prepared for careers in all aspects of the Sports industry including coaching, teaching, fitness instructing or working in community sports. Students will have the opportunity to take part in sports teams and will have the opportunity to use the Institute gym and sports hall as part of their course.
Course Details
If you love sport then we have something just for you at the Grimsby Institute. Push your passion to the next level by studying with us. Training in state-of-the-art purpose built facilities, work your way up to a career in sport. Our facilities include a double-sized sports hall, fully equipped fitness studio, outdoor floodlit multi-use games area (MUGA), dance studio and commercial sports therapy clinic. You will have the opportunity to playing in a number of Grimsby Institute teams that take part in local, regional and national leagues. Depending on the study programme, you may also be able to get additional qualifications in First Aid, Nutrition and Fitness, Coaching Awards, Safeguarding and Leaderships Awards and Gym Instruction. You will also undertake a variety of practical lessons covering performance, coaching, fitness testing and teamwork as well as all aspects of sport and leisure.
Level 2 is roughly 40% Practical/60% theory, focusing on fitness, coaching (including Sports Leaders Award) and analysing performance.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course
Minimum 2 GCSEs grade 4 or above, or equivalent, including Math's and English Language.
Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
