You’ll gain valuable insight into customer service, marketing, destinations, and event management, all within the fast-paced travel and tourism sector.
Course Details
The classroom has a real aeroplane interior that you get to use to carry out full flight procedures, from serving from the trolley to the safety drill, equipped with all the gear that a usual demonstration would have. There’s also a travel agent’s desk so you can get a real feel for what it’s like to work in the travel and tourism business. You get to train as if you’re already in the job. The world really is your oyster.
Learners will tend to undertake their two weeks of experience in one of the following areas: hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, travel agencies, customer service-based sectors or airports.
Key areas include: The World of Travel & Tourism; Global Destinations; Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism; Travel and Tourism Enterprises and Specialist Tourism.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.
Entry requirements
Level 2 – 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths
Your next steps...
Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.
Potential careers include: Cabin Crew; Travel agent; Tour operator; Aviation operations; Hotel management; Tourist attraction management.
