Course Summary

The Travel and Tourism course gives you the chance to travel and see the world whilst you work! It is true that the travelling starts here on the course with an opportunity to go on a residential trip plus day trips to places like London, York Dungeons and the Manchester Trafford Centre.

You’ll get to learn about the industry, covering everything from customer service, marketing and event planning to leisure and tourism.

Course Details

The world really is your oyster when you study Travel and Tourism with the Grimsby Institute. With this level 3 qualification in this vast and varied industry you will open the door to all kinds of careers and could see you travelling the world as well as the opportunity to study further at university.

Learners will tend to undertake their two weeks of experience in one of the following areas: hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, travel agencies, customer service-based sectors or airports. Upon successful completion of Level 3 - Year 2, some learners may be offered the opportunity to undertake a one-year internship in Florida.

Key areas include: The World of Travel & Tourism; Global Destinations; Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism; Travel and Tourism Enterprises and Specialist Tourism.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course

4 GCSEs grade 3 or above, or equivalent, including Math's and English Language.

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.

Potential careers include: Cabin Crew; Travel agent; Tour operator; Aviation operations; Hotel management; Tourist attraction management.

Potential courses in education include: Leeds Beckett, Manchester Metropolitan, UCG, Sunderland & Lincoln. Some learners have also gone on to work in Florida on a 6- or 12-month internship through BSG Interns, working in world class resorts throughout the Sunshine state.
