Course Summary

As well as preparing you for a job in the Armed Forces or the Emergency Services this course provides transferable skills that can be used in many other careers. You will improve your physical fitness as well as communication, team working and leadership skills.

Course Details

The Uniformed Public Services course offers you a great insight into life as a member of the Police, Fire Brigade, Royal Navy or Army, Royal Air Force and other services such as Paramedics. Teamwork, fitness and leadership form the foundation of the course where you will take part in fitness sessions, adventure activities, drills and exercises to prepare you for life in some of the most physically demanding and vital job roles there are. Work experience opportunities include placements in local youth organisations, schools and events with the RAF, Royal Marines and the Army. Various marshalling opportunities at local events such as the annual charity Nightwalk are also available.

Learners will take part in fitness sessions and adventurous activities and exercises as well as studying law, government and citizenship. Criminology, war and conflict and current affairs are also studied. Teamwork, fitness and leadership skills also form a part of the course. This is a programme that will see you challenged physically through a series of fitness sessions and adventurous activities. You will improve your teamwork and leaderships skills during residential courses.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

When you do a vocational qualification you will learn in a workshop, salon or studio as appropriate for your subject and you will usually be assessed through practical assessments, projects, assignments and oral and written questions. There may be exams in some subjects and your tutor will prepare you for these.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual’s previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Minimum 2 GCSEs grade 4 or above, or equivalent, including Math's and English Language.

Your next steps...

Successful students may progress onto the next level in their chosen subject, into employment or an apprenticeship, or, after a level 3 qualification, to Higher Education at the University Centre Grimsby or other other University.

Potential careers include: Armed and Emergency services, Coaching, Nursing, Outdoor Education Instructors, Teaching and Coaching.
