Course Summary
A-level Biology enables students to develop relevant practical skills alongside essential knowledge of a range of biological concepts and scientific methods. Students explore key concepts in biology including: genetics, evolution and ecosystems; biodiversity, evolution and disease; communication, homeostasis and energy and exchange and transport. The practical endorsement allows students to develop a good set of skills in the laboratory through experimental activities that support the teaching of each topic.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Three exams and a practical endorsement.
Paper 1 – 2hrs 15mins - Biological Processes (37%)
Paper 2 – 2hrs 15mins - Biological Diversity (37%)
Paper 3 – 1hr 30mins - Unified Biology (26%)
Practical Endorsement – A set of practical experiments are covered during the course. A pass/fail grade is achieved and is reported separately from the final A-level grade.
Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are as follows:
• 5 x GCSEs at minimum Grade 4
• GCSE Grade 4 in English and Mathematics
• GCSE Grade 5 in an academically relevant qualification to the chosen A-level subject
