Course Summary
Studying English Language at A-level enables students to develop their writing skills. Students explore a variety of texts produced for different purposes across different time periods. They study how contextual factors shape and influence text production and how a range of linguistic frameworks are used to meet the function and purpose of a text. Additionally, students explore how children acquire and develop their skills as communicators, how language has changed over time and a range of issues relating to sociolect, dialect and attitudes towards language use.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Two exams and coursework.
Paper 1—2hrs 30mins - Language, the Individual and Society (40%)
Paper 2 – 2hrs 30mins — Language, Diversity and Change (40%)
Coursework—Non-Exam Assessment - a language investigation of 2000 words and a piece of original writing and commentary of 1500 words (20%)
Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are as follows:
• 5 x GCSEs at minimum Grade 4
• GCSE Grade 4 in English and Mathematics
• GCSE Grade 5 in an academically relevant qualification to the chosen A-level subject
