Course Summary

A-level PE explores a range of key topics that affect participation and performance in sport. This course is ideal for students who have a genuine interest in all aspects of the sporting world. Students taking A-level PE must be playing competitively in at least one sport on the A-level specification, which will be used for video evidence. Students’ competitive performance will form the basis of the written coursework.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Two exams and a practical assessment.

Paper 1 – 2 hours - Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport (35%)

Paper 2 – 2 hours - Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport (35%)

Practical performance in physical activity and sport (30%)


Entry requirements

Our entry requirements are as follows:

• 5 x GCSEs at minimum Grade 4
• GCSE Grade 4 in English and Mathematics
• GCSE Grade 5 in an academically relevant qualification to the chosen A-level subject

Equipment required

You will only need basic stationery and a non-scientific calculator. There is also an expectation that you will be able to supply a visual recording of yourself taking part in your sport in a competitive situation.
