Course Summary
The A-level in Physics B (Advancing Physics) takes a structured context-led approach to learning about physics in everyday and technological settings. Areas studied include the mechanical properties of materials, communication and signalling, waves, electric, magnetic and gravitational fields, quantum behaviour and fundamental particles. Practical skills are embedded throughout the course, and you are expected to carry out practical work in preparation for a written examination that will specifically test these skills.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Three exams and a practical endorsement.
Paper 1 – 2hrs 15mins - Fundamentals of Physics (41%)
Paper 2 – 2hrs 15mins - Scientific Literacy in Physics (37%)
Paper 3 – 1hr 30mins - Practical Skills in Physics (22%)
Practical Endorsement – A set of practical experiments are covered during the course. A pass/fail grade is achieved and is reported separately from the final A-level grade.
Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are as follows:
• 5 x GCSEs at minimum Grade 4
• GCSE Grade 4 in English and Mathematics
• GCSE Grade 5 in an academically relevant qualification to the chosen A-level subject
